Voltage Check is a fortnightly newsletter and running archive fact-checking claims about electric vehicles, wind, solar, batteries and the electricity grid worldwide, including the data centres now driving so much of the demand for all of it.

Most issues push back on overstated, unsourced or misleadingly-framed claims. But a genuine, well-supported story gets reported as one too. Credibility depends on being willing to say this one checks out, not just on finding fault.

Where we stand on diesel and gas

Diesel and gas aren't treated here as an embarrassing backup plan for a green grid. They're reported as what the numbers actually show: a major, ongoing part of keeping power supplied today, not a footnote. We only make that case when the data backs it up, the same sourcing standard applies whichever direction a story cuts.
